Clinician engagement

We are always keen to support consultants, specialty trainees and allied health professionals join us in delivering world class research.

How to get involved

There are several levels of involvement and we try to be very transparent in how you can gain recognition for your involvement – either as a recruiter, Associate PI, PubMed Cited Collaborator, Principle Investigator or co-investigator.

  • Recruiter - for most of our studies, every time you enrol a participant, you will automatically receive a certificate to demonstrate your engagement in the study.
  • Associate Principle Investigator (PI) – all of our studies are part of the NIHR Associate PI scheme. We encourage specialty trainees and AHPs to take on these roles to gain research experience with official certification.
  • PubMed Cited Collaborator – we want people to join us on the final papers – as part of the collaborator group with your name searchable in Pubmed. We have clear rules for each study on how to achieve this.
  • Principle Investigator – we have an international network of clinicians who lead the studies at each hospital, though are always keen to work with new investigators (consultants or established AHPs) to grow our research community.
  • Co-Investigator – if you want to take the step up, to be part of a study management group, study oversight group or have a study idea you need a hand to develop – we want to hear from you! This offer is open to trainees, AHPs and consultants – everyone brings value to our team.

Trainees

Join our studies as an Associate Principal Investigator

We keenly support the NIHR Associate Principal Investigator (API) scheme, and work with NIHR to ensure that trainees are appropriately recognised for their participation in research delivery.

Researchers

Before you start - We encourage trainees to undertake GCP training and GRANULE (a course about how to engage people in clinical trials, including explaining randomisation and dealing with patient preferences etc). These are available for free by registering here using an NHS e-mail. GRANULE is developed by surgeons in Bristol and is actually really useful!
